The father of accused teenage cop killer Austin Holzer defended his parenting and support for his son Monday in court as defense attorneys questioned whether concern for his own reputation has been his greatest concern in the wake of his son's February arrest. Grand Junction resident Chris Holzer told Mesa County District Judge Richard Gurley that despite the challenges of single parenting and some brushes with the child welfare system, he did the best he could to provide for his son, now 18. "I believed I was doing the best I could with what I was handed," Chris Holzer said during a hearing for his son, who was 17 when he was accused of gunning down Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Geer in February.
