Mesa County and three Plateau Valley agencies can hold on to nearly $1 million that an energy company overpaid in taxes, under a Colorado Court of Appeals ruling. A three-judge panel ruled unanimously that Oxy USA Inc. can't claw back the money it paid for the 2011 tax year to the county and to the Plateau Valley school, fire and hospital districts.
