Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger said he'll likely seek an appeal to the state's high court after the Colorado Court of Appeals last week ordered a new trial for a Mesa County man convicted of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl on multiple occasions. Lonnie Ray Jarrell, 42, had been serving a 52-year prison sentence on multiple counts of sexual assault on a child under 15, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse, all stemming from a 2012 jury trial in Mesa County.
