A federal court judge has ruled that a wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of a deceased child's estate, accusing child-welfare employees in Mesa County of negligence, may proceed. The lawsuit, filed in September 2016, alleged that employees of the Mesa County Department of Human Services failed to properly vet the home of relatives where Angel Place was placed by caseworkers, and that they failed to recognize warning signs that led to her death.
