But in the days leading up to the sale, there's so much work to do that they don't have time to think about their animals' fate, said 4-H volunteer Kalie Carr, whose own children were longtime competitors while they were growing up. "Saturday hits, and they're like, 'I'm going home with no animal,' " said Carr, whose job was to line competitors up as they prepared to go into the auction arena.
