The Colorado Court of Appeals on Thursday said changes in juvenile law that happened in 2012 should not invalidate the sentence in the case of a Grand Junction boy who admitted torturing and killing his mother's dog. Joseph Nelson was 18 in October 2012 when he was sentenced by District Judge Richard Gurley to serve 18 months in Mesa County Community Corrections, in addition to five years probation, after pleading guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals.
