But when a replacement to the retiring Republican will be selected is not yet known, said Freida Wallison, chairwoman of the GOP vacancy committee for the 3rd Congressional District that is choosing the replacement. By law, the committee has 30 days after a resignation goes into effect to name a replacement, which means the panel has until the end of August, said Wallison, adding that it can meet as early as 20 days before that effective date to choose a replacement.
