A Fruita man who confronted and killed a man with a rifle in front of his home in April was justified in doing so, the district attorney said Thursday. In a letter addressed to Fruita Police Chief Judy Macy, Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger wrote that Paul Delancey, who lives at 557 W. Pabor Way, was within his rights under Colorado self-defense laws when he shot 27-year-old Joshua Chasteen in the chest one time, killing him.
