A regional U.S. Forest Service official has largely rejected objections over a proposed new White River National Forest oil and gas plan, but has ordered the forest supervisor to rectify a couple of shortfalls before issuing a final decision. The action by James Bedwell, acting deputy regional forester, pertains to WRNF Supervisor Scott Fitzwilliams' decision to cut land available for oil and gas leasing by more than half, from 411,475 acres currently, and to close the controversial Thompson Divide area to future leasing.
